Rest is powerful for our bodies, minds, emotions, creativity, relationships …- which is why sleep is important plus learning to respond to the seasons of our lives. But it has profound spiritual applications.
I was a prayer warrior and intercessor in the 1970’s, so when I first started sensing God’s call to ‘be with me’ it drove me crazy as it was so hard, and it took years to get a handle on some techniques and thinking that would make it possible.
2 Corinthians 3 is what started me on the journey
. It was a revelation of what was possible, that the stakes are high but what is available is more than I could realise. It is a scripture that has waited its time, and I believe we are coming into that time now. See my article 2 Corinthians 3 :7-18
I bet a lot of you have a similar story as God never moves in isolation.
I would love to hear from you – do comment.
Hi Ros,
I have been reading Soul Keeping by John Ortberg which aligns with your book on REST.
John Ortberg quotes Dallas Willard as saying – Hurry is the great enemy of spiritual life in our day. You must ruthlessly eliminate hurry from your life.
Reading both REST and Soul Keeping has been a great blessing to both my wife Ruth and myself.
It was also a privilage to be able to meet up with you while we were here in New Zealand.
Thank you and God Bless you.
Thank you Bob and Ruth for contacting me to talk about the spiritual side of Rest. It is good to know people on the other side of the world are exploring this aspect of their lives and finding that learning to rest physically can help their spiritual lives as well.
Preach it in England!
Do contact me next time you come to visit family here, I would love to hear where your rest journey takes you.
