At last there is now so much talk about ‘busy’ that we are ready for its alter ego: Rest.

Ros Broome is a physiotherapist who has combined decades of experience with medical evidence-based practice to bring understanding and practical application together in one book. Her mantra is ‘high performance with sustainability’, because people need to practise both for the sake of their immune, digestive, nervous and reproductive systems, as well as mental health and creativity. The stakes are high.

“I’ve been using your relaxation and breathing techniques to fall asleep at night, and taught it to a friend of mine who has really bad panic attacks and insomnia – they certainly work! Rest was a very valuable read for me.” Sarah Scott, Editor

“In this book, Ros takes us on a journey into some of the ways we can assess our adaptability and buffer ourselves from the strain of our modern world. I know Ros has spent countless hours with me and others expanding her knowledge base, but it is her straightforward approach to explaining “all of this” that is her greatest strength, and the strength of the book. She has taken complex systems and made them accessible for everyone. Thank you, Ros. I’ve enjoyed our journey so far…” John J. Sollers III, Ph.D.  Senior Lecturer in Health Psychology, The University of Auckland

This is a straight forward guide to a kind of meditation technique that the author has worked out through years of practical experience. This practicality shows in the clear explanations of how to apply it and just why it works (and why it is important we do it). We are taken on a journey with Ros as she figured all this out, including the science behind it and with case histories woven through it.
But what perhaps might have been a vast, intimidating tome left untouched on dusty shelves is instead a lively account that you can read in a longish afternoon. By the end of that time you will really want to try this technique out.
